Gather for a fun discussion with former Bardot superstar now sound healer Katie Underwood and Out Front artists Sue Beyer and Louise Blyton to explore each artist’s practice and Katie’s new album “Madrigal”.
In addition, some of the topics we aim to cover:

Louise Blyton
Nature is Louise’s ultimate source of inspiration. […] Throughout her creative journey, Louise has been always inspired by the infinite possibilities offered by textural minimalism. But it is within the realm of Reductivism that the artist has attained the ultimate expression for her visual vocabulary. Materials and forms are reduced; image and medium work together to deliver the message in harmony and unison. The genesis of each individual artwork is intuitive and emotive. Dr Eugene Barilo von Reisberg is a Melbourne-based scholar and art adviser, who shares his passion for art, history, and culture from the nineteenth century to the present day through regular lectures and publications.
Louise Blyton is a painter, sculptor, printmaker, curator and independent researcher currently living and working in Melbourne, Australia. She has held regular solo exhibition since the early 1990s throughout Australia (Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney) and abroad (Beijing, Paris, and Williamsburg (NY) and NYC. Her works have been included in curated and invitational group exhibitions in Australia, China, France, Germany, the Netherlands, UK and USA. She was a finalist in a number of Australian and International awards and prizes, most notably the Fremantle Printmaking Prize (1988); the ANL Maritime Art Prize (2004); Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize (2005); and the Blake Prize for Religious Art (2010). Her works are held in significant corporate and notable private collections in Australia, China, France, Portugal, UK and USA. She is currently engaged upon ongoing curatorial and research projects, The Exquisite Palette, and Chromatopia: A History of Colour, and had her first solo exhibition in NYC at 57th W57th.
Katie Underwood
Katie Underwood has enjoyed a diverse music career over the last 20 years with releases in Pop (Bardot), Dance (Dsico Montego, T-Funk, Terra Ferma, Southlight), Jazz & Blues (with Matt Dwyer), Indie Rock (Evoletah) and Hip-Hop (Tanha). She received an APRA award and ARIA nomination for her hit song Beautiful in 2002 and a further APRA nomination for her follow up Solo single Danger.
In 2010 she started her new career in healing with massage, reiki, meditation teaching and finally sound therapy. Katie now facilitates regular sound meditation workshops all across Melbourne using her voice and various healing instruments to induce altered states of consciousness and deep relaxation. Her first Meditation album ‘Madrigal’ is now available on CD, iTunes and most other digital platforms.

Sue Beyer
In 2010, Sue Beyer completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with first class honours at the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and was the recipient of a Griffith Award for academic excellence.
Since graduating she has held six solo exhibitions as well as taking part in Test Pattern, an annual show of graduating artists in 2010 at Ryan Renshaw Gallery and in 2011 was part of Check in an exhibition curated by Courtney Coombs for the Brisbane Emerging Arts Festival.
In 2008 Beyer won the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital Art Award. In 2009 She was commissioned by the Queensland State Government for a public art project and in 2010 received an Australia Council ArtStart grant. In 2013 Beyer won the Milburn Art Prize, judged by Jan Manton and was a finalist in the Churchie National Emerging Art Prize. Also in 2013, she successfully completed a public art commission for the Ipswich Hospital Expansion Project, was an artist in residence at Bundanon Trust and Point B Worklodge in Brooklyn, New York and set up an artist run space in regional Qld – Other Space. In 2014 Beyer was the winner of the Anne Lindsay Emerging Artist Award in the Stanthorpe Art Prize, judged by QAG/GOMA curator Angela Goddard and presented a talk at TEDx Brisbane held the Powerhouse in October 2014. In 2015 Beyer relocated to Melbourne and in 2016 was a finalist in the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery National Works on Paper exhibition.
At the present time Sue is a Master of Fine Art research candidate at the VCA in Melbourne, supported through an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship.

Economic Hardship: FREE admission
We want to give everyone the chance to participate. However we also know from past experience, people with free tickets are more likely not to show up – so unfortunately someone who wants a seat misses out. We have limited seats and quickly book out events.
We also know that women and non-binary artists are amongst the most economically disadvantaged, earning 25% less than male counterparts, with recent Australia Council reports indicating the situation is worsening, not improving.
